About Madeleine Berry
On discovering Social Work, I knew I had found my place. Since then, over 25 years ago, my career has been ever evolving. I have worked with many client groups in a variety of settings. My roles have included case management, assessment, service management, clinical supervision, counselling and group work. People I have worked with include families who have a child with a life-threatening illness, people living with HIV/AIDS, older people needing support to live independently, women coping with challenges in pregnancy, homeless people, bereaved people. With each new role, I have identified learning opportunities and always striven to build my knowledge and skill to support my clients in the best way I can. Through courses, self-paced professional development and a Masters in (Social Work) Counselling I continually enhance my practice by keeping up to date with new research and evidence-based education.
Social work puts the person at the heart of the interaction. Each person has a unique life experience, background and set of responses. As a counsellor, I focus on you as an individual, who lives within a particular environment and dynamic circumstances. I strive to work through a trauma informed lens and recognise and build on the strengths you bring.
Social work is bound by a code of ethics and a set of practice standards we all adhere to, which are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of clients today and recognise emerging challenges. I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers, our peak body which verifies and accredits qualifications.
